Hard starting-GMC Sierra 1500 4.8L
Hello all...having some hard starting issues with my truck. Can sit for a few minutes and will start fine, 10 or more and it cranks for awhile before it starts. Will start faster if I turn key for a second or two, then off, then try again and it almost always starts the second time. Replaced fuel filter and vacuum line off of pressure regulator, it was dry. Dont have the means to do a static pressure test. My fuel gauge is already erratic and I have 96k miles on original fuel pump. Should I just replace the pump?

Try turning your key toward the start possition and let it sit for a couple of seconds, giving the fuel pump to pump the systom full of fuel. The idea is to see if the fuel is flowing backwards. WES

That helps sometimes, but not always. I can let the key stay on for 10 seconds or more and it's usually the same. It always starts on the 2nd attempt if I crank it for a bit, shut it off then crank it again. I've shopped around for the fuel pump assembly and the prices range from 199-260. What is the best brand?

I would say an A/C Delco or replace it with new GM. WES

i wouldnt just go and toss a new pump in without knowing for sure what you have, especialyl at only 96k miles its alot of work to replace the pumps in these trucks it could be one of so many other things. any stored CEL codes? cranks sensor failing(in timing cover at balancer crank dampner)? corroded grounds at engine or body? under 12 volts in battery? what do plugs look like?
