Towing capabilities

I have been working on my 71 Chevy C20 Custom Camper. I put a 427 stroker with 396 steel crank, aluminum heads, roller rockers, roller cam....ext.....It dyno at 400 HP with 500 lbft @2700 rpms.

I have hauled my cab over camper and a 16' cargo trailer loaded with no problems, getting 10 mpg.

What I would like to find out, has anybody hauled a 5th wheel (approx. 35') with their truck? If so...how did it do? I believe it will do it, I just don't want to over load the truck.

Any input would be appreciated

Great looking motor. What you haul with it also depends on the abillity of the truck to stop it. (weight, height and etc.) You can have all the power in the world, but if you cant stop it that doesn't do you any good. WES

That and if the suspension on the truck will handle the weight that the fifth wheel hitch puts on it. With the camper and trailer you may have had more weight pushing down on the rear suspension than the 5th wheel would have though.

I've got pretty much the same truck that I am putting a 500 Cad in to tow my sailboat with a bit easier than the 350 did. Bos at and trailer weigh 5500 lbs but it only has about 400 lb on the hitch.
