engine

I found a huge v-6 in a 64-66 gmc 3/4 ton, I thought about puting it in my 64 chevy 4x4. Any info on this engine would be appreciated. Are parts available, do any parts interchange with any other engines, and would it be worth rebuilding or should I go with the small block 400 or 5.3L gen III vortec? I thought it might be neat to tbi the v-6, I know the distributor may be a problem so thought about grafting a tbi distributor to the original. Thanks for any info.. chevylvr

school bus engine

they are from gmc medium duty trucks.they make awesome torque.but they are rough idling and horrible fuel economy.if you want to be a little diffrent than go for it.

A large percentage of those engines were pulled out and replaced with small blocks some time in the trucks life. When they got a few years old it wasn't cost effective to rebuild them.

As Pete said, the gas milage was beyond terrible and parts are getting somewhat hard to get. Also no after market support as far as goodies go.

If you had a nice stock GMC with one in it that you wanted to keep 100% original I would say go for it otherwise I would run something else.

As Pete said those are/were torque engines. They work at low speeds and were popular with farmers and ranchers in this area who pulled trailers with them.
