In reading this board I read a lot of mention of 402 engines. I'm running the standard 350. I have to ask why the love of, and benefits of, the 402? At some point I'll need to either freshen or replace the 350, pros and cons of a 402? Thanks!

Well Dale, you come to the right place... Hehehehe. In one word POWER, nothin beats cubic inches. Here is a list of the pros and cons that I can come up with. Pros first....
Power, more power, you don't have to overwork them pulling heavy loads, did I mention power, bragging rights, the funny looks that you get to see when someone tries to stoplight race with you and you in your pickup just smoked them, did I mention power, you lift the kood of your truck and all you see is engine, hehehe, ummm oh ya did I mention more power, also in my opinion makes the truck more valuble.

Cons.... Cost to convert, more expencive to work on, less gas milage and power, if you don't like lots of it. hehehe.

A caution for you if you decide to convert... The best way to do it is useing a doner truck so that you get all the linkages, brackets, towers and the high hump. Otherwise you have to locate all of that. Or make sure that you get it from the guy, you are buying the engine from. Believe me when I tell you that Big Block parts are expencive, (even used) not to mention hard to locate. WES www.ClassicHeartbeat.com (http://www.ClassicHeartbeat.com)

remember "THERES NO REPLACMENT FOR DISPLACMENT"
saw that on a blazer site and thought it sounded cool, and kind of fits Dales' question.

402 is a good motor. It is just a 396 that grew .030 on bore in late 69. With a set of car heads and a cam change you have a really good performer. All stock big blocks have more lower end grunt than most stock small blocks which makes suits them better for trucks. Myself I am stuck on the 427's but they are harder to come by.
