Hi all-
I need some advice on carburation. I have a stock Rochester Quadrajet on my 402. No matter how much I try to adjust the mixture, it seems to burn rich. I rebuilt it but I still have problems with hesitation from idle to accelerating from a stop. I've heard a lot about Edelbrock carbs. Anybody have any input on these and recommendations for replacing the Rochester? Size, etc. Thanks , Ron

Just curious, did you replace the float also? I have the edelbrock 600 cfm on mine and I'm very happy with it (electric choke) but I see others here have had trouble with them.

One thing that might be possible on the Q-jet is the primary and secondary well plugs. A book I have says they are notorious for leaking. It recommends sealing them with epoxy. Unfortunately, you will have to pull the carb apart again.
I have an edelbrock #1406 (600cfm) on my truck and it runs great! It took a lot of fussing around (mostly from trial and error and because I've never tuned a carb before)to get it there, but I am very happy with it now. It is very easy to work on. A jet change takes around 20 minutes and it can be done with the carb on the engine. You might want to go with a 750 cfm carb for your 402. Hope this helps.
