Looks great! I am beginningto realize I am a bitlike Wes, I like working on them more than having the finished truck.

its back in the garage now!!!! money will be the limiting factor on my build..i can still get ALOT done with the parts i have accumilated thus far...and theres a small bit of fab to do yet...so that will keep me busy for awhile...
Glad to hear it's back in your garage. It doesn't look like a lot needs to be done to get it in paint. Especialy after watching the Olds build..lol WES

This ought to be sweet. My first real truck was a 67 with the small window.

im afraid this wont be going to paint anytime soon...most every bit of my extra cash these days is going towards my wedding coming in june.it will be in primer/sealer though,so i can drive it..the inside of the truck may get painted so i dont have to take it apart again but not sure yet...

made some progress today, got the fuel tank installed in the back under the bed,had to move both of the x-members behind the rear axle, but its in now,i moved the rearmost member back a little then made a new one for the front of the tank as i didnt want the frame to flex back there. im happy with the results! its a 20 gallon tank from a late 70s K5 blazer
http://i488.photobucket.com/albums/rr249/leadfoot067/projects/67%20GMC/gmc001.jpg
Looks great!! But I am curiouse. Was there a reason that you didn't go with the 21 gallon 69-72 Blazer, 67-72 Suburban tank? You wouldn't have had to move the crossmembers then. WES

didnt like how far they hang down...and this tank was free...
Awwwww. I see! Are you sure that is only 20 gallons? It looks awfull large. My book shows 73-81 3-pipe tanks to be 21 gallon and 73-77 4-pipe Blazer tanks are 31 gallon.
leadfoot067

ok its the 21 gallon, my 73 blazer has the 31 gallon and its 14" tall this one is more like 9-10..
I like the look of it. I will be watching this thread to see how the filler neck turns out. It doesn't look to be as tall as the 67-72 Suburban/Blazer Tank is either. The guys with lowered trucks might prefer it. WES

well i can run the filler out either side or out the back,as there arent any baffles in these tanks, and i would just rotate the sending unit around..gonna try for the back, should come out right under the tailgate, but not sure yet..
leadfoot067
01-26-2011, 11:19 PM
did some looking tonight.pretty sure i cant run it out the back(would hit the tailgate) so looks like im going out the drivers side with a rear corner stake pocket filler...gonna go with a pop up marine style cap that is flush when closed...
I kind of thought that looked like a problem. But I thought maybe you were running a roll pan. Have you given mutch thought to a behind the side marker filler? I have a write up on it in the "How To" section of our website. WES

i dont have side markers....its a 67:biggrin:

well got the pass bedside, cowl and front bed panel stripped of the paint, and delivered to the painters for primer.started mocking up the fuel filler.need more parts for that...did some measuring for the rear wheels and tires, and due to the leaf springs im not gonna have as much tire as i originally thought.no worries that just makes them cheaper.dug ou the manual steering box from the shed in preperation for cleaning and install...nothing picture worthy today..
Well progress is progress!! You are getting more done than I am on my panel... I have 2 other customer trucks in my shop also taking up some of my time though... WES

ya not sure it will be done for the wedding...but that would be cool.... didnt get alot done over the weekend..got the manual box ready to install, never made it to the exhaust shop for the fuel filler tube..finally found some 13 1/4ID hoops in 12" wide (the rally centers fit in them) so i can make my rear wheels. hoping to find some big tires at the upcoming swap meets..ended up spending most of my day yesterday on my 89 burb...its getting 4.56 8 lug axles..

Thanks for posting the photo of the tank install. I have both Blazer and burb tanks and have been trying to figure out how to make one or the other work on the 3/4 ton and you may have just given me the solution. I'd rather run the big tank if I can get it to work for the extra capacity. It's a later Fi tank but I can probably swap senders with one I have stashed away. As the 71 isn't a show truck I've been thinking about installing a gas door for the filler rather than go though the tail light or stake pocket. Stake pocket won't work for me as I want to run the canopy I have sitting waiting for the gas tank swap. Tank's in the front of the bed now.
Your progress on the truck makes me look like a slacker, It's time to get busy and get some work accomplished on my projects.

sunday was a productive day for me....got the cab off the truck...today got it bolted to a rolling cart from my friends body shop.this will be its home till its painted.its gonna go to and from the body shop on this cart.got a sand blaster lined up to borrow, gonna blast all of the difficult areas of the cab, then just sand off the big flat panels so i dont hurt them..and replace both rockers and fill in the fuel filler hole..
