If you intend to run at the drags I'm not sure if some sanctioning bodies allow welded spyders due to the issues with breakage.
On the street or in the woods you would be dragging one wheel on every turn due to turning the rear axles into one solid axle straight across.
If you are making a mudder out of it then head on as I think that is what those guys usually do.
It might work if you are setting the truck up just for burnout contests as a blown rear end in that venue would be just cause for more excitement.

Bad idea... Unless you like to hear loud metallic popping noises when you turn corners.
Plus as Mr.48 explained... if you ever hit a strip with it... it's against the rulz...
Full on off road truck, or a mudder... go for it.

I agree with what they say. Welded spiders do tend to break easely though. WES

Buy a Posi-traction rear end.
Gary
You can purchase lockers that can be installed in your rear end. A good source to talk to is Randy's Ring & Pinion. 800-347-1188 They would be able to set you up with exactly what you need. WES

Eaton and Auburn Gear make good Posi-traction units too... I think Randy's carries them both.
I think the Auburn is a little cheaper than the Eaton, but both are exceptional units.
