Proper engine paint color for 48 chev Pickup

That should read, What is "the" proper engine paint color for a 48 Chev pickup?


I'm starting to collect the dressup goodies for the 292 that is going into my 48.

The plan is to dress the engine out to look like a rodded early Chev 6 with a Finned aluminum Offy valve cover. Interesting period correct chrome or aluminum air cleaner, aluminum side covers and a few more goodies.

In that plan I would like to paint the engine close to the original color that a 1948 Chev half ton pickup's engine came in but am not positive of that color. The best I can find is that it is gray. Any info on the correct color and where to get it would be highly appreciated.

Here is a link to what looks to me like a period correct restoration truck and the engine is painted gray.
