Hi

I have a 1970 3/4 ton truck and I was wondering what the rear axle is worth. It has the posi differential that opens from the front and the rear. I was told that these are more valuble then the standard posi rear ends. I also have the original literature for the rear end. look at the attached pictures and tell me what you think it is worth if you could.

That looks like an earlier rear end than 70s normally have. I may be all wet on this one though. Depending upon the supplier at the time there were several different housings used in these trucks.

Price would = who's buying it who's selling it, what condition that the gears, posi, seals, brakes and drums are in and the gear ratio. Right now I would think that 3.55 or 3.73 gears would bring a premium with a posi.

Just like in real estate LOCATION-LOCATION-LOCATION has a lot to do with prices on these things. In some areas the prices are pretty high and in others you almost have to give things away. In this area the 4x4 boys keep the prices of 3/4 posi rears with low gear ratios =4.11, 4.56 5.13 up in the price range because they convert the 1/2 tons to 3/4 ton axles front and rear.

So what is the normal range in price? High is ... Low would be about...

Not trying to steal a post, but I'm in the market for a 3/4 or 1 ton rear for my longhorn. I'd like to find a leaf spring style 8 lug in the 3:50ish range to replace mine that is 4:11 or higher. When I get my 454 built, I'd like a highway friendly truck to tow with. Where are you located? What ratio is yours?

I am in Wisconsin near minneapolis

I am not sure about the ratio, but I am sure the truck was not set up for speed. It is a 4 speed truck with a Granny gear. I am not sure if I will be selling it. Trying to decide what to do with the truck. It is an all original drive train truck. Body is junk. I am considering parting it but have not decided yet.

The truck does have the original rear end in it (stock from the factory) This truck was never messed with outside of regular maintaince from everything I have seen. It was a farm truck for it's entire life in Wisconsin.

In this area the low is sometimes "come get it and haul it off. Low price for a 3/4 ton Posi that is similar has been around 150. I've some listed in the
Seattle area for about twice that.

Around my particular area the price depends more on how popular the particular 3/4 ton rear is with the 4X4 boys. That, as I mentioned before is because a lot of them convert their 1/2 ton rigs to 3/4 or 1 ton axles in this area.
If it is in good shape and the brakes are decent shape along with the drums I don't see why it wouldn't be at worth at least 200 or 250 an maybe more depending upon the gear ratio.

As I said earlier you have to snoop around a bit and see what the going asking price is in your area.

thats an eaton rear....only ratios for it were 4.10,4.56, or 5.13.....most likely its a 4.10 thats the most common....they are challenging to find bearings and brake parts for....and not cheap to repair....the parts are available if you go to the right parts house...ya know with a guy that knows how to use a book:rolleyes:
