Not quite what I had planned but I am going to go with it.
My running buddy called up and says "hey I have something you need, come and get it". That something was a good running 77 292 that will go in the 48 in place of the very tired 250.

A bit of a different direction than what I had planned and I will go ahead and stick the M-II cross-member under it while I am at it and have it back up and running a lot sooner than I had expected.

I also have a Saginaw 4 speed on the way to go in in in place of the fully syncro 3 speed that i have now.
The 250 will get a rebuild if it is rebuild able and go in the vintage style racer that I have been collecting pieces for for the past umpteen years.

With the rear end it has 3.08 I think but you know in 20 years I never counted the teeth, I shouldn't get all that bad of mileage. the 250 did pull 20 on road trips consistently though. Right now the 292 is giving the 71 a real smooth ride riding around in the back until this weekend when I can get it in the garage.
Major garage clean out needed here. The garage is probably 75 years old and most likely first housed my grand parents 36 Chev when they took it home from the local dealership. It was also built to fit the 36 Chev or the car that preceded it so it is pretty close quarters in there.
