I am considering adding Power Steering to my baby. My father drove her less and less as he got older mostly because it bacame too hard to drive without Power Steering. As I get older, I am beginning to understand that more and more.

Since I am a checkbook wrench and not sure how invasive a project this would be (I know it was an option in '72, but I don't know the specifics on what would need to be done), I am wondering what would be a fair estimate to have someone add Power Steering to my truck.

Any advice you might have would be appreciated.

Thanks!

It would depend on wether or not you had the parts to start ou with. You should be able to buy a good power steering gear, power steering pump, with brackets and crank pully to go with it for around $150.00. I see them go for that on e-bay all the time. If you have pationts you can find them cheaper, by advertizing on our parts board that you are looking for a set-up. You would be far ahead if you buy all of the parts off of the same truck so you don't have pully allignment problems. GM had several different configurations and as many guys can tell you, it can be tough hunting the individule components down. Once you have your parts, I would think that you could get a reputable shop to install the whole works for a couple hundred bucks. I have done it several times and it's not to bad of a job, it just takes a little time. WES www.ClassicHeartbeat.com (http://www.ClassicHeartbeat.com)

Thanks Wes!! Prompt and informational as always. So I'm guessing if I get the parts, the total bill would be around $500 and if I let the shop find the parts and do the work it might be around $700 or so after their markup - sound about right?

If I wanted to move forward with this would you be able to supply everything that is needed? I'd like to throw some business your way if I could.

Thanks again,
