View Full Version : Getting frustrated here

Spent the morning installing the condenser and AC control unit I got from the junk yard yesterday. Loaded it up with freon, again, but the bubbles never got out of the glass. I had 'cool' air for a short time but it never got cold, got a little warmer actually. Took it for a short test ride wasn't sure if I was going to make it back home. Loss of power and a strange noise from the motor. When I did get home there was a lot of condensation around the POA valve and it seemed to be really hot under the hood. Gauge showed I was lower on freon than when I left.
I've put a lot of money into this old system, but I don't think it's going work out. Summer is almost over and I still don't have AC.

What nu2-72 means is did you vacuum out the lines before adding any freon??
You will need a decent vacuum unit, they are made for especially this purpose. they (who know) recommend leaving it on for a whole night. it sucks(vacuums) out all old freon and oil and any contaminates that may be in the system. Then you add the new stuff. (it will also let you know if you have any bad "O" ring seals or a leak.

Well, it was empty the first time I filled it and found the leak at the condenser. The AC hadn't been used for a while. Then when I replaced the the condenser I thought all the gas escaped when I disconnected the condenser from the drier.

The purpose of the vacuum is to create a vacuum in the system.(Gets rid of all the air). That allows the system to be filled without any air in it just freon.

Alright, I'll take it to my son and have him hook it up purge and refill it.
