gas guages

I have a friend who is rebuilding a 50 Chevy. He put a gas tank designed for a boat in it. Mounts under the bed. Now he's having problems, the guage isn't working, so he can't put the bed on it. I am assuming there is a compatability issue between the sending unit and the guage. Any help with this one would be appreciated.

I believe that his gas guage is a 0-30 ohm gas guage. What he will need to do is to find out haw many ohms his sending unit is in his new tank and buy a resistor to put in line with the sending unit wire to bring the ohlms down to 0-30. The other possibility is if the boat gas sending unit is possitive ground instead of negative ground. A lot of boat stuff is. WES www.ClassicHeartbeat.com
