Okay, I found a good used 1980 400 ci small block that came out of a 1972 blazer that I'm going to stuff into the 72 4x4 truck. Any advise on the swap (orig. 350)?

1. With the left side dipstick are there going to be any issues with starter or power steering pump?

2. What about accessory brackets, PS pump, alternator, long vs. short water pump?

3. It has the 400 balancer and flexplate, but is the starter the same regarding number of teeth and location, etc. between the 72 350 and the 1980 400?

Well, being that the engine was in a 72 Blazer last, just follow the last owners recipe.
#1 Dip stick won't interfear with anything except A/C if you have it.

#2 Your best bet is to swap over to the newer brackets. They will work with the long pump and they are easier to find anyways. It is best to get them all from the same vehicle so you'l KNOW they will match with each other.

#3 Not sure...I hope some one else does. I hink the 305 is the only one that has the odd ball starter, but I may well be wrong.

I might add to ensure you keep your ballancer and flywheel that came on the 400....it is an externaly ballanced engine.
