I have a 86 long bed a been toying with idea of cutting the frame down to a short wheelbase don't do a lot of heavy hauling wondering would it be strong enough for everyday driving and what would cutting the frame cost? The truck is a very good truck don't want to runin it. :burnout:
I do not know what a frame shop would charge to do the job, but when done correctly, it is every bit as strong as the original. You just want to make sure that they just don't make strait a down cut. The best way is to make a vertical cut about 1/2 way through the frame. Then a horizontal cut aproximetly 12" long, then finaly finnishing with another vertical cut through the bottom half of the frame. Remove the length needed making identical cuts, them weld the frame back together. Then weld a reinforcement plate on the back side of the frame inside the channel. WES www.ClassicHeartbeat.com
