If you don't have one of these...get one...if you can't get one...borrow one from the boss....this made it SOOOO much easier.

It is in...by the loosest term possable...but it is in. The torque converter is just sitting in there, the linkage is lost in the basement but it is bolted in there and no jacks are being used to hold anything anymore. http://classicheartbeat.com.westserver.net/ubb/biggrin.gif I need to go the the parts store tomorrow and get a tranny mount, this one was beyond kerfaggled, more like fubard.

Yes it is Jason...the crappy parts store engine stand I have won' let me turn the engine over if the fly wheel is bolted on there. That POS is so cheap I'm kinda suprised it even held the engine.
Wes, I've seen it done that way, but never tried it, and since the Caddy engine is so huge, I would be scared to do it that way.

I was browsing through my repair manual and it recommends pulling engine and tranny together on 2WD trucks. What are the implications of removing the engine only? I'm not too familiar with how the engine hooks up to the tranny (TH400) Or do you separate the two after all is pulled?

Just curious

In order to get the engine out, you almost have to pull the transmission out anyway(it's tough to clear that input shaft and also hard for a round boy like me to snake a chubby fist around to unbolt the tranny from underneath the truck) and it's a whole lot easier to let your cherrypicker do the work rather than trying to manhandle it from underneath the truck.(unless you sweet talk Andy into letting you borrow his trans. lift) Also, it's easier to clear the radiator support using the transmission as a counterweight. And finally, knowing all of us like I've come to, we probably wouldn't be satisfied driving our trucks if we knew that we had missed an opportunity to tinker with part of our truck. Happy New Year, Jeff

I have yet to pull both with the lift, I just see no reason to risk the pending damage with all that crap hanging from the lift.
When you jark out the engine alone, you just go straight up with it, then pul it out of the way. The tranny is still sitting in there, no exhaust has to be removed from the truck, the linkage and all that is left alone...just never seen a reason to do it.

THE ONE THING TO REMBER IS TO DISCONNECT ALL OF THE ADDED HOOK UPS (LIKE THE OIL GUAGE LINE).
WHEN I PULLED THE MOTOR OUT OF MY CRUCHED 69
I FORGOT TO UNDO THE OIL LINE AND TRY TO PULL THE OIL GAUGE THOUGH A 1/2" DIA HOLE.
DONT WORK !!!

THE CADDY PROJECT IS LOOKING GOOD KEEP UP THE THE GOOD WORK.
