My engine code is supposed to be on a pad just in front of the right side cylinder head. ( '72 402 ) The pad is there, but it's just smooth, no number. Is this number supposed to be die cast or on a plate that might have come off at some time? As far as I know, this is the stock engine.

While I do not know big blocks, If in fact it is supposed to be there like on a small block, I would say it was shaved in a rebuild to restore a flat deck.
