ok i got a new speedo cable and a detent cable. question is i adjusted like the instructions said but the tranny still doesnt kick down i even over adjusted the cable(went 1/8 of an inch or so tighter ) but still nothing what should i look for other than a new tranny?
Sounds like you are talking about a T-350.... The way to adjust that cable is to pop the retainer clip up.... Then rotate your carberator linkage to full throttle and while holding the linkage in that possition, push the retainer clip back into the locking possition. If you have adjusted the cable further than that it will not shift down. If you push the clip down when the throttle linkage is not in the full possition it will shift down earlier. If this doesn't work you need to see that the vaccum line to the Vaccum modulator is connected to unjetted vaccum.... Meaning right strait from the intake manifold. If you have it hooked up that way and the cable adjusted the way I have described and it still doesn't work, then your Vaccum modulator on the transmission is probibly bad.... I notice in another post you have aftermarket carb on there...do you have an aftermarket intake too? If so, the distance may be too far and your carb simply isn't pulling on the cable hard enough.
Do you have/can you get any pictures?

WELL I TRIED ADJUSTING LIKE YOU SAID WES BUT STILL NO KICKDOWN. I DONT THINK THE PROBLEM IS IN THE CABLE OR CARB, THE CABLE IS NEW AND THE CARB IS ONLY ABOUT A YEAR OLD. I THINK THE PROBLEM IS IN THE TRANNY, I TOOK THE CABLE OFF COMPLETELY AND CHECKED THAT IT WAS WORKING, HOOKED IT UP TO THE CARB AND MOVED THE LINKAGE AND IT WORKED. HOOKED IT BACK UP TO THE TRANNY AND ADJUSTED IT, I EVEN CHECKED THE WIRE OR WHATEVER IT IS ON THE TRANNY TO SEE IF IT WAS MOVING. I AM NOT AN EXPERT ON TRANNIES BUT ID SAY THAT THATS WHERE THE PROBLEM LIES. AND YES LONGHORN IT IS AN AFTERMARKET INTAKE ITS A WEIAND STEALTH. AND WHEN I SAID I OVER ADJUSTED I MEANT THAT I MADE THE WHOLE THING TIGHTER SO IT WOULD OPEN UP SOONER BUT STILL NOTHING. ANYWAY THANKS FOR THE INFO GUYS.
Well I had the same problem with my 67 and it was because I used a quadrajet off of a Big Block. The linkage is not set up for the T-350 so I modified it. Thought I did a good job too!! But when the linkage rotated all the way around it wasn't enough to kick the tranny down into the lower gear. My remidy for that was to cut 1/4" out of the slot in the end of the cable and weld it back together, making the slot shorter. Worked great too! You could take a little 1/4" nut and bolt and place it in the slot, effectivly shortening the slot. If that works then do like I did and cut the end on the cable, shorten the slot and weld it back together. If not, you havn't ruined a new cable.....
