I am putting a used th400 tranny in my burb to get it back on the road. My 71 burb has the 400 big block w/ the th400 tranny. what rpm is stock? what would you recomend for better performance (without putting a shift kit in the tranny-stock)? I also have to keep in mind my budget is very small. I appreciate any help.

Bob, what will you be using this truck for, and what gears do you have in your rig?
For stock combos, and for daily driving, it is pretty hard to beat a stock verter. I am running a B&M 1900 verter in my GMC (not nearly enough for my cam though) and I would say it is a good number for a stocker that is driven harder than stock.
There are so many variables to torqu converters and all that jaz, that you are probably better off getting all the specifics of your vehicle (weight, tire size, cruise RPM, rear gears, horse power and torque figures if possable and any mods already done) and call a verter company. B&M and TCI are a couple well known large companies that I have heard very good things about.
