If I understand you all correctly...the 265X60's are the best size tires for 15X8" rims. I want to keep my spedo fairly accurate...Are there any brands that have the edge for handling and ride or are they all about equal. Which tire has the best bang for the buck?
I await the vast wisdom of the members of this board.
Your humble student.

I'll wait with you Dewayne. I'd love to know which sizes represent a similar size to my 235-70-15. I'd even be willing to go larger rim.

Hi Guys, I am running Dunlop GT Qualifiers. 275x60x15's on bboth of my 72 chevy swb trucks . They ride great , smooth, excellent handling My speedo is off by 5 mph, as long as I know that , I can live with it . They were not very expencsive either. As far as wisdom, I'm not responsible. I had the first set about a year, bought my cheyenne super and thought enough of the tires to put a set on it. Good luck, george

I haven't forgotten guys "HONEST" I've checked here at the house and do not have the magazine issue here so it must be at the store in the "reading room" If I someway or the other misplaced it (that translates if I laid it where I shouldn't have and the wife threw it out) I'll call one of the good tire joints and get the information from them.
I wanted 28" tires on all 4 so that is how I ended up with the sizes I did.
I also went with B.F. GOODRICH T/As because they were relatively inexpensive. all 4 were under $425.00 mounted and balanced
GEORGE; Welcome aboard, and They make an adaptor that will make your speedo. read properly. most tranny. shops have them.(if it matters)

I run BFG T/A 275/60 rear, 255/60 front, all on 15' rims. My speedo is accurate, but it could of been recalibrated. Most tranny shops can give you the stuff to reacalibrate.
I really like the BFG's, they are farily sticky and give a good ride. Good wet weather traction as well.
Now on tire sizes....You calculating the diameter is fairly simple...Take the width(275 for my rears)and multipy by aspect ratio(.6 for 60 series) times 2 divided by 25.4 plus rim diameter (15")
(275 X .60 X 2 / 25.4) + 15 = 28"
This is how I calculated the sizes for the 17 inchers I am getting soon (Please honey, I need these).
Good luck http://classicheartbeat.com.westserver.net/ubb/smile.gif

DEWAYNE,
If you want a normal type stance from your truck, and you don't want wider tires in rear and narrower in front, YES! 265-60s would be a very good choice.
265 is width in millimeters and 60 is the aspect ratio of the tread height compared to the width. or in other words, how high the sidewall is from the rim to the ground,or 60% of 265...60 series is a reasonable amount because if you go to like 40s or 45s there is less sidewall to give you cushion driving down the road. and you don't have the height of a true truck tire(such as a 70 series) I've been looking for the issue of the sport truck magazine that had all of this in it, and can't find it. their formula I've been speaking of, helped put me where I wanted to be using theoretics on how far the lowering job would actually come out. even though they advertise a 4"-6" it doesn't always work out to that as I'm sure many of you know. So if any one of you have that imparticular issue HELP ME OUT! It was only a few months back, and it may not have been SPORT TRUCK, but it was one of that type.I bought it because of the article. THE article was advertised on the front cover.
I believe they refer to it as plus sizing.
I don't have the m.m. to inch conversion tables to convert this to inches.
SORRY,
hope this helps.
RON
one more thing, THEY recommend you DON'T go over 2" wider tires than your rims. They told me to go your rim width to the 2" wider max. because of tread wear. the wider you go the more your tire will bow in the center. So find a conversion chart( some cookbooks have them in the back) and GO to figuring!!!
