Last week I installed a one wire 135 amp alt. Boy do I wish I had done this sooner! I have had HEI in my truck for about 2 years and it is always had a minor stumble on idle. This new alt has smoothed that out and the trucks acceleration is much smoother http://classicheartbeat.com.westserver.net/ubb/smile.gif

What is involved in updating these to our truck's?What does a person have to change wire plug etc.

my 66 (one owner ) gave me fits for about 2 years i replaced the old alt. with a one wire , but the scrapping of a 35 year old distributor with HEI replacement made the old baby hum ... I have been running the HEI now for 20 months with no tune up necessary ... better gas mileage too

For the HEI all you need to do is replace the Distributor, run it to a 12 volt power source (I put an in line fuse) and you should chnage to HEI wires. Sine we have ram horn manifolds, the best HEI wires to get would be for a 75 Vette.

The one wire alt was super easy. Disconect the old alt and tape up the old wiring and put it to the side ( or remvove it). And run a 10 gauge wire from the positive terminal on the pattery to the power post on the Alt.
