need TH400

i am not sure if i lost the whole tranny or just the torque converter. i can here the converter "whine" with the eingine rpm's. then i heard the infamous bang clank. the positive note is i have had people tell me if the tranny is gone you lose all ears. it will not shift up from 1st to 2nd, but reverse is good. i just replaced the modulator and i do not think that could cause the converter to go. I appreciate any help.
