View Full Version : instrument bezel measurements?

Anyone got a spare instrument bezel laying around? A cracked up, beat up one would be great. I just need to take some measurements off of it so I can CAD out an aluminum bezel for my dash. Or, if anyone has already measured out the bezel, that would be even better

I'm really only concerned with the outer edges and the corner radii as I'll be using different gauges than the stock ones.

Anyone?

I got a couple sitting in my garage right now. What format of CAD data do you need. I could model it real quick. Would be cheaper than mailing it..

Wow, thanks! I actually don't have/use CAD (I dabbled with AutoCAD 10 back in the previous century http://classicheartbeat.com.westserver.net/ubb/smile.gif), but a friend of a friend of a friend said he could CNC me a bezel if I gave him a CAD drawing.

Basically what I need is the trapezoidal shape of the bezel itself (as if you put it on a piece of paper without any gauges in it and traced the edges)... and that's it. Everything else will have to be added to the drawing after I get detailed measurements on the gauges. Basically, I'm going to have a pair of these...

basically in the stock locations and where the bottom right gauge would normally be, I need to flush in the stock ignition switch and flange. Plus some miscellaneous other stuff like headlight, wiper, turn and high beam indicators, etc. But I haven't finalized how they'll all be laid out... and I figure a few stylized cuts to bring it all together. I'm Corel-ing some mockups to give myself some ideas.

Phew... that was a lot...

This is what I did about 18 years ago. I want to try something else now. I would really like to have a copy of that cad file. I use autocad lite.(dwg/dxf)

XXL- where did you get those gauges? I'd be interested in a pair of those as well. I specially like the 2nd one.

72GMC, the gauges are from Classic Instruments (http://www.classicinstruments.net/aboutgauges_smart.htm). They've also got the grey face gauges with a Boyd's logo on them if you're into such things, as well as a lot of other nice gauges. The ones shown are $505 for the set, which includes sending units (except fuel, but it works on our stock gas senders), and mounting brackets. They are made to order but the guy I spoke with said turnaround is usually only 1 day.
