A friend of mine is selling this engine it has a problem with pressurizing the crankcase causing it to blow out oil into the breather can .He spent 6k on it 4 yrs
ago and it has about 5000mi on it.
1969 396 bored .030 2 bolt main oval port heads with Erson springs ,hardened seats bronze guides ,roller rockers etc.10 1/2:1
compression recond.crank and rods,Arp rod bolts and head bolts,solid lifter cam by Erson .585 lift 294 duration @.050.Edelbrock double roller timing chain,Hi volume oil pump
with deep sump pan,Weiand Stealth intake with square bore and air gap Holley 750 double pumper with mechanical secondaries and dual feed ,Aftermarket HEI not sure what brand,Jet hot coated hooker super comp headers,This is a complete engine including water pump chrome valve covers etc.and is still assembled Runs good but has a miss due to low compression in one cylinder.
Asking $2000.00 for it

Sounds as though the motor was not correctly broken in and the rings were not allowed to seat and now the blow by past the rings is pressurizing the bottom half of motor. Time to tear down hone reassemble and break in properly.
$6000 spent and he couldn't keep his foot out of it till he got it broke in. OUCH!!!

I think you nailed it ,the engine has had this problem for some time now .He replaced it with a 540 hp Merlin cost 8 g's I think he will break this one in correctly.

I'd love to have it but Montana is too darn away from the engine.

Hey Dale, I know someone with a great running 396 for sale here in Washington. I believe it has a recent rebuild and he told me it does not smoke. It was pulled out of the car 15 days ago and swapped for a small block. It is supposed to be built up a little also. I can check into it further if you like.
